A revised Eagle Scout Application was issued in January, 2025.   The most obvious change reflects the new name of our organization, Scouting, America.  The less obvious change concerns your references and who will provide them.  Previously, recommendations were required from a parent, someone who could speak to your faith, a representative from your educational world, an employer (if you had one), and two other references.  That is all gone now, with a simple request to “list the names of individuals who know you personally and would be willing to provide a recommendation on your behalf,” with blanks for four names.  Simple!  The new application also allows digital signatures, a nice feature.  You can download it HERE.

One item remains that is sometimes overlooked by Scouts.  There is still a requirement to provide “a statement of your ambitions and life purpose and a listing of positions held in your religious institution, school, camps community or other organizations during which you demonstrated leadership skills.”  This is commonly known in our council as, “the essay.”  I tell Scouts that I coach that this one place in life where it is OK to brag a little!  A single typewritten page is fine.  Your Eagle Board of Review really wants to know you personally.

“Oh, the possibilities!”
